Engine Systems - Roller Finger Follower Valve Train

Hydraulic Valve Lash Adjustment (HLA)

In previous page we already share and show you the Hydraulic Valve Lash Adjustment mechanical elements, features and how its work. Today i will writedown the the features and the function of Roller Finger Follower Valve Train. See the Explanation and figures below :

Hidraulic Valve Lash Adjustment

Features

Roller Finger Follower Valve Train With Hydraulic Pivot Element

Sheet Metal Finger Follower and Pivot Element
  • Contact between the finger follower and cam is preferably given by means of a needle bearing cam controller.
  • Very low valve train friction.
  • Very simple assembly af cylinder head.
  • Oil can be easy fed from the cylinder head.
  • Very little space required.

Sheet Metal Finger Follower

① Cam roller
② Oil Spray bore
③ Retaining clip
④ Valve flange

Pivot elements

Cast Finger Follower and Pivot Element
⑤ Piston
⑥ Housing
⑦ retaining ring (polygon ring)
⑧ Venting hole / pressure relief hole

Ⓐ Sheet metal finger follower with cam roller ⓐ and pivot element

  • Formed from sheet metal
  • Height of valve flange ④ on valve is freely selectable
  • Optionally with oil spray bore ②
  • Optionally with retaining clip ③
          - Simplified cylinder head assembly
  • Very large load bearing surfaces in the half sphere area and valve contract face
  • Highly cost effective.

Cast Finger Follower with cam roller ⓑ and pivot element

  • Complex lever geometris possible
  • High load carrying capacity
  • High rigidity dependent on design
  • Low mass moment of inertia dependent on design.

Hydraulic pivot element

  • Held together by means of polygon ring ⑦
  • reliable support of high transverse forces.
In the next share we will show you the mechanism, features and the components of Rocker Arm Valve Train Components.
